According to a classification request in Australia, a new Sonic game is apparently being published by Nintendo. No word on what exactly the game is, but some say the title has a resemblance to a Fire Emblem character. Do we smell crossover? Rumor mill for now.

The new Major Nelson show is out, and he talks about the new Xbox360 OS. The good news is that the new Avatar system is not necessary, although the OS replacement is. Also, anyone who purchased gamer pictures or themes will still be able to use them. Great news, we were worried about that. He even talks about game installs, claims its pretty "slick." It has some other info on the new OS, so give it a listen.

"Your existing gamer pictures and themes still work. They're not going away." Pretty good news I guess, for some.

It seems that over the last 5 years or so, Nvidia and ATI were fixing the prices of their video cards so as to dupe consumers into paying comparable high prices. It is even alleged that they held secret meetings to discuss selling strategies, etc. You can see from the charts at the link that this is most likely a valid charge. There is a class action lawsuit now pending. Sheesh, good thing we paid only 150 a piece for our Radeon 4850s!

In case you missed it, the demo for the party game Hail to the Chimp is now available on Xbox Live. It weighs in at 427MB, so grab it now.

Score one for the pirates. It seems that those people who used the Digital Download service from Ubisoft to purchase Rainbow Six Vegas 2 got a shock when the game asked for them to insert their game CD before playing. Of course, the complaints on the official Ubisoft forums ran rampant. Well, one of the employees there apparently uploaded the pirate "no-cd" patch that allows users to play the game without the CD. There is one released for almost every game out there these days. Ubisoft took the file down after about a week, and is looking into the matter. Irony. Dripping.

Both the head of EA, John Riccitiello and the head of Ubisoft, Laurent Detoc, agree that E3 is just not what it used to be.

"I hate E3 like this," said John Riccitiello, Electronics Arts' CEO. "Either we need to go back to the old E3, or we'll have to have our own private events."

Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America, concurred. "E3 this year is terrible," he said. "The world used to come to E3. Now it's like a pipe-fitters show in the basement."

The show has been going through an identity crisis since it disbanded due to money reasons 2 years ago. If things stay this way, it looks like E for All will be the year's big show.

CVG has posted an interview with Rare's Senior Director Mark Betteridge to celebrate Banjo's 10th anniversary in Europe. Rich Cousins, the producer of the latest Banjo game, joins the interview as well. From the beginning, Batteridge makes it clear that he wants to turn Banjo into the Microsoft bear, as it were. He thinks the "time is right for Banjo to be a mascot character for the Xbox360." Without even having one game released? Interesting. What about Master Chief?

We finally got the official NPD numbers, and the top home hardware is *drumroll* Wii! The console sold 666,000 units in June. The Nintendo DS came in at 783,000, but that is a handheld. The Sony consoles, both Playstation 3 and PSP beat out the Xbox360, with a measly 219,000. Chances are Metal Gear Solid 4 did affect PS3 hardware sales more than previously thought. The only thing the 360 did not beat was the PS2 at 188,000, pretty good for a 10 year old console. Click read more for the official info.

PlayStation 3 405.5k
PSP 337.4k
Playstation 2 188.8k
Xbox 360 219.8k
