Not surprisingly, the new Nintendo DSi sold out completely in Japan in just over 4 days. Nintendo then shipped another 100k units, which also sold out. The device, as we reported, was also recently cracked to run homebrew, which is only going to make it that much more popular. It is not even hitting North America until Spring 09, it will sell out here as well, we are sure.

Nintendo has confirmed that they will be shipping at least 200k DSi units for the Japanese launch of the new handheld. Since the launch is happening right now, we fully expect the units to sell out shortly, if they have not already. The new DSi cost 18,900 Yen, which is about 129 EUR. Nintendo also said it would ship another 100k units this week if needed.

According to a scan of one of the new Nintendo DSi manual pages, the device should support both WPA and SDHC. As you can see, both the logo for WPA and SDHC appear on the booklet page, which is almost proof positive the device will be able to handle both schemata. Thanks to some sharp eyes over at GAF.

As of now, it seems the DSi software is going to be region locked. This info comes from a statement made to CVG by a Nintendo rep. We assume this is to restrict gamers from sharing the new downloadable games that the DSi will play."DSi is region locked because DSi embeds net communication functionality within itself, and we are intending to provide net services specifically tailored for each region,"
