Harmonix and MTV Games announced today the addition of nine new tracks to the Rock Band® Music Store catalog of downloadable content. This week’s lineup includes a 3-pack from the legendary California punk rock band The Offspring, which features “Gone Away,” “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy),” and “Self Esteem.” The 3-pack joins previously released Rock Band downloadable track “Hammerhead” to make for a total of four Offspring tracks available in the Rock Band library of downloadable content.

Vicious Cycle Software has announced today that the new version of their game engine, the Vicious Engine 2, (Ve2), will be premiering on the Xbox360 and PS3 in their new title, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. This third-person shooter should feature overhauled lighting and shader technology, advanced audio and AI, and enhanced physics and path finding.

“This generation of console hardware has the capacity to render stunning visual fidelity, not to mention realistic audio, animations and AI,” said Wayne Harvey, vice president and CTO of Vicious Cycle Software.

Head of MS Game Studios Phil Spencer said that he understands the loyalty that Euro customers have for Sony products. He does not go into too much detail, but he does promise that MS will continue to try to win over Euro gamers with more region-specific content. Then again, Sony has also traditionally screwed Europeans in the past because PAL was traditionally the last region to get game releases, and if a certain game did not sell well in NTSC, it got canned before it was even released in Europe. It happened more often than you might think.

"We look at our success to date, and we understand... that having content creators and content that is very tailored towards the European market is incredibly important, especially in the console space in the competitive environment that we're in," added Spencer.

Along with the major stuff a the conference, Nintendo also revealed that they will be increasing the amount of Wii and DS units shipping to the US. Reggie Fils-Aime himself was the man who made the statement, so hopefully this Christmas will see the shelves full of as many Wii units as will sell.

Some bad news to report for those who buy used games. The new NBA Live 09 from EA has a catch for those who want to use the Live 365 roster update feature. Gamers who buy NBA Live used and wish to use the feature will have to buy it for $19.99 as a service. If you purchase the game new, you get a card that gives it to you for a year for free.
