Sony has responded to the reports about the PSP2, claiming that the facts were "misinterpreted." Sony's director of hardware marketing, John Koller, said the rumors are completely unfounded. It looks like the PSP hardware will be around a bit longer, folks.

"What's going on, Koller told us, is Sony is pushing developers away from its 'Universal Media Discs' and towards digital distribution of games via the PSP store. Someone misinterpreted the new push as 'PSP2' development."

It seems Sony plans to offer one more model of the PSP before they release a true successor. According to Eurogamer, in 2009, Sony will release the PSP-4000. The true PSP2 will come later, according to sources. No more detail was given by the article's writer, of course, but we are anxious to see what Sony can add to the PSP.

Users have been complaining about the new PSP 3000 screen, apparently. The LCD on the new hardware apparently has evident scanlines in certain situations. According to Sony, nothing can be done to fix this problem, and nothing is planned for users. More woes for Sony, it seems.

"Yes the colour gamut is wider, yes the black levels are lower, but this screen now has what looks like scan lines that were not visible on PSPs before," commented one user, adding: "I am not happy about my 'upgrade'."

Sony Japan has announced that all future first-party PSP games will now be available for download as well as their retail UMD release. On October 15, this service will begin, the same day users will be able to access the PSP store directly from the PSP handheld. The digital revolution has begun?

Those of us lucky enough to play in the Little Big Planet beta have come to appreciate just how powerful the game is. The developer, Media Molecule, have really provided PS3 users with one versatile bit of software, as well as one that provides tons of fun. Mark Healy, co-founder of MM, spoke with Eurogamer, and revealed that he would certainly like to do a PSP version of the game. Gamers could use the Sony handheld to create even more custom content for LBP, which already features so much.

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida says he is disappointed with the third party support for the Sony PSP. The first party lineup is strong, as per usual with the Sony consoles, but he is very concerned about the opportunities that third parties are missing on the handheld. Despite this though, Yoshida promises many more games for the Sony PSP in the near future. Good to hear.

Last week we told you that the new Sony PSP 3000 model, due out in a month or so, would have a new, brighter, easier to use outdoors, LCD screen. We also told you that Sony said the battery life would be cut by around 15% because of this. Well, apparently, that was an erroneous statement. Today, SCEA Marketing Exec John Koller said that the new PSP 3000 would have the same battery life as the PSP Slim.

"I'd like to make a correction and clarify that the new PSP will have equivalent battery life to the current PSP, about 4 to 6 hours for games and about 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos," said Koller on the official PS blog.

Our PSPs only get about 3 hours of straight gaming, but then again, we don't wear watches either.
